The Founder of our school, MMA Abdul Mannan, was a self-made man who came up from humble origins to establish the Dhaarus Salaam Trust.Mr Mannan was born on January 5th, 1935 in Jameen Attur village, Karur district, to Abdul Qayyum and Aysha Beevi. He migrated to Sulthan Line Kumarasamypatti in Salem, after his father’s demise, and graduated with a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) at the Gokul Natha Hindu Mahajana High School.
He began his career as a businessman at the age of 23, by setting up a small grocery at Sollampallam in Salem. By the age of 28, he started trading in coconut fibre and yarn, through which he dispatched goods all over the country. His success in business helped him to become a prominent resident of Salem, and he was elected as a Ward Councillor when he was 32.
A polyglot who was fluent in five languages, Mr. Mannan was a well-regarded orator, writer and social worker. He was popularly known as ‘Mannan Hajiar’ after he performed the Haj pilgrimage in Makkah, Saudi Arabia at the age of 30.
He was a generous patron of causes related to the Muslim community, and focused his efforts education and social empowerment.
Mr. Mannan donated 25,132 square feet in 1991 to Dhaarus Salaam Trust with the aim of promoting education for young girls.
He financed the construction of the school building by selling his commercial property in 1996 and named the school as Dhaarus Salaam English School.
In 2000, he got the permission to commence Classes I to VII from Tamil Nadu Matricuation School board, from when the institution was renamed as Dhaarus Salaam Matriculation School.
Mr. Mannan passed away on June 7, 2017.
We are proud to say that due to the consistent effort of Mr. Mannan and the Managing Committee, the school was upgraded to Higher Secondary School in the academic year 2018 .
